French Legal Translation in Paris

Born in New York and now based in Paris, I bring a dual legal and linguistic background to serve international clients with precision and insight. Educated at Harvard (B.A. with honors in French History and Literature) and Georgetown Law (Juris Doctor), I also hold a Certificate in French Studies from the Sorbonne and am admitted to the bars of New York, Massachusetts, and California.

My career has evolved at the intersection of international law and business. I began in Paris with a global law firm and the European headquarters of a multinational company, and went on to spend 24 years in active legal practice—both in private practice and in-house. I served as legal director for publicly listed companies, including a Fortune 50 corporation (EMEA region) and a major French multinational (North America, South Pacific, and Asia). These roles gave me a strategic, business-oriented understanding of law and governance at the highest level.

Today, I work as an independent legal translator and legal translation consultant, often embedded in legal departments and international law firms. I specialize in commercial litigation, international arbitration, competition law, intellectual property, and corporate law.

What sets me apart is the combination of legal precision, linguistic accuracy, and operational understanding. My translations are not just faithful—they are strategic tools that support clarity, credibility, and confidence in cross-border legal communication.

With the benefit of dual expertise—legal and intercultural—I chose to specialize in legal translation and to provide targeted support to legal and corporate professionals facing transnational challenges.

Barbara Macon - Traductrice juridique

Today, I work as an independent legal translator and legal translation consultant, including on-site engagements within law firms and in-house legal departments.

My practice covers a broad range of areas: commercial litigation, international arbitration, intellectual property, competition law, contract law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, selective distribution, anticompetitive practices, taxation, compliance, and brand protection. I also work on matters involving apostilles, letters rogatory, court judgments, summonses, hearing transcripts, arbitral awards, multilingual contracts, internal policies, and documentation required in cross-border proceedings.

My approach is built on three pillars: terminological precision, grounded in a deep understanding of legal concepts across both common law and civil law systems; editorial quality, ensuring that the translations are clear, fluent, and aligned with the expectations of high-level professionals; and operational insight, developed through years of hands-on experience, into the strategic role translation plays in legal projects and international procedures.

I rely on professional tools (Trados, collaborative glossaries, customized style guides) and work in close coordination with clients to ensure terminological consistency across all documents, while meeting tight deadlines and sector-specific requirements. My goal: to deliver translations that are not only accurate, but also legally sound, culturally appropriate, and fully fit for purpose in the context of your international legal challenges.
